Ultimate Metronome from Jon Broderick
Dear Fellow Musician,
Let me guess—you don’t always look forward to practicing, do you? Hey, it’s OK to admit it…I used to have the exact same problem!
And let’s face it, we’ve all gotta practice if we want to be able to bust loose with an electrifying solo onstage.
You know the kind of solo I mean…when you’ve got your chops under control, the tempo is no problem for you, and you can just soar and pour your soul into the music…and the crowd goes wild!
But you know as well as I do that getting better isn’t just about banging out mindless practice hours…it’s what you practice and how you practice that matters, am I right?
Let me ask you something about your practice…
- Do you set specific goals for yourself?
- Do you meet those goals?
- Do you regularly do exercises to keep your fingers warmed up and your technique rock-solid?
- Do you try new things so that you can expand your skillset?
Do you follow me so far?
Problem is, most people practice the wrong way—the inefficient way. They sit around playing songs and riffs they already know, in a random kind of way. And sure, that can be comforting and it’s fun…but it’s not the most productive way to practice.
