Joel Andrews, who has a solid reputation as a concert harpist, decided to focus his life on using the harp for healing. This 1980 recording is an Andrews classic. The first side offers many gentle and sublime repetitions of the famous J.S. Bach Ave Maria, from the first prelude of The Well-Tempered Clavichord. Andrews then takes off on what he does best, free-floating and uplifting improvisations for meditation. On this “Meditation,” he begins with the lower tones to align with the lower chakras (the body’s energy centers) and moves up to energize the crown chakra at the top of the head. Andrews has every musical device and harp technique at his disposal, and the extended meditation will transport you to spaces of bliss, mystery, and beauty.
